Report: Blue Jays offered Fowler deal in $60M range
After inking Steve Pearce to a two-year deal on the first day of the winter meetings, the Toronto Blue Jays have shifted their focus to landing a high-profile outfielder.
With their sights set on Dexter Fowler, the club reportedly made a four-year offer in the $60-million range, according to Jon Heyman of FanRag Sports. Fowler's camp, however, is looking for a deal closer to $18 million annually.
Fowler would fill a significant need for the Blue Jays at the top of the lineup and in the outfield. The 30-year-old switch-hitter is coming off an All-Star season in which he hit .276/.393/.447 with 13 home runs, 25 doubles, and 13 stolen bases in 125 games with the Chicago Cubs.
The St. Louis Cardinals are also to believed to be interested in Fowler, who will cost a draft pick to sign him after rejecting a qualifying offer.
