Report: Mets confident on trading an outfielder at winter meetings

After re-signing Yoenis Cespedes to a record contract earlier this week, the New York Mets front office will switch into seller mode for the winter meetings.

With a logjam created with Cespedes' return, the Mets are reportedly confident they'll be able to trade an outfielder before the winter meetings conclude on Thursday, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN.

The Mets' preference is to trade Jay Bruce away over Curtis Granderson, though Rubin notes the latter is receiving much more trade interest.

One logical trade partner for the Mets are the Toronto Blue Jays, who have reportedly expressed interest in both Granderson and Bruce. New York is believed to be seeking a relief help or prospects in return.

Bruce, 29, was a disappointment in Queens after the Mets acquired him at the non-waiver deadline. The three-time All-Star has, however, averaged 29 homers and a .780 OPS over the past six seasons and fits the Blue Jays' need of adding a left-handed bat. He's owed $13 million in the final year of his deal.

Granderson slashed .237/.335/.464, but did manage to blast 30 home runs and 24 doubles in 150 games. The 35-year-old is a much better defender than Bruce, can hit at the top of the order, and bats left-handed. He's also in the final year of his deal, set to earn $15 million in 2017.
