Report: Blue Jays showing interest in Moreland

Jim Cowsert / USA TODAY Sports

The Toronto Blue Jays are interested in acquiring the services of first baseman Mitch Moreland, sources told Jon Morosi of FOX Sports.

Moreland has strictly been a first baseman for the duration of his seven-year career with the Texas Rangers, though it's unclear how the Blue Jays would plan on using him.

The 31-year-old is also coming off a poor season that saw him slash a career-worst .233/.298/.422, though he belted 22 home runs and 21 doubles. That being said, Moreland doesn't fit the DH profile considering he's coming off his first Gold Glove.

The Blue Jays are expected to make a move at the winter meetings, given they're likely forming a contingency plan in the case they don't re-sign Edwin Encarnacion.
