Report: Fowler searching for multi-year deal worth $18M annually
Dexter Fowler's services were never going to come cheap.
The free-agent outfielder's camp is reportedly looking for a multi-year deal that would pay the 30-year-old $18 million a year, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network.
After Yoenis Cespedes and the New York Mets agreed to a four-year, $110-million deal Tuesday, Fowler became the top outfielder available in free agency.
The St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants, and Toronto Blue Jays are among the clubs still interested in the switch-hitting center fielder, Heyman adds.
Fowler made $8 million in 2016 as part of a two-year deal he signed with the Chicago Cubs last offseason. Following the Cubs' World Series victory, he exercised an opt-out clause in his contract before rejecting a qualifying offer from Chicago to become a free agent.
In 125 games for the Cubs this past season, Fowler slashed .276/.393/.447 with 13 home runs.
