Rockies GM confirms team has 'checked in' on Melancon
The Colorado Rockies might have Mark Melancon on their offseason wish list.
Melancon, a Colorado native, is one of the best free-agent relievers on the market this winter, and Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich has done his due diligence in reaching out to the closer.
“Like we have done with a lot of guys, we have had conversations, and we have checked in on Mark,” Bridich said, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post.
Ever since his All-Star season in 2013, Melancon has been dominant. His worst year over that span was in 2015 - the only time his ERA was over 1.00 (2.23).
Last year, he posted a 1.64 ERA, split between the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals, striking out 65 batters over 71 1/3 innings while recording 47 saves.
