Andrew Cashner wanted to move to Arlington.

The Texas Rangers finalized a one-year, $10-million deal with the right-hander Monday, and Cashner pushed for his representatives to get a deal done this offseason.

"The biggest thing for me is getting to come to what somebody told me the other day is the best culture in baseball," Cashner said, according to Sports Day's Gerry Fraley. "That sets the tone for winning."

Over his seven-year career, Cashner has played five seasons with the San Diego Padres, two seasons with the Chicago Cubs, and one with the Miami Marlins.

None of those teams finished with a winning record while he was on the roster.

The 30-year-old has a 3.89 career ERA over 726 1/3 innings of work. Last season, he went 5-11 with a 5.25 ERA after splitting the season between the Padres and Marlins.

His recent past didn't deter general manager Jon Daniels from taking a gamble on the Texas native, who was born and raised 200 miles from Arlington and went to Texas Christian University.

It also helps that he tried to acquire Cashner a few times in the past.

"I really do believe that sometimes there is a right fit with a person, the athletes, the coaching staff, the team, teammates, the community," Daniels said. "We're excited to bring him here."
