Report: Dodgers looking at Twins' Dozier

Even though the Los Angeles Dodgers are reportedly open to bringing back Chase Utley, the club is also taking a look at other options at second base, including a powerful member of the Minnesota Twins.

The Dodgers are showing an interest in Brian Dozier, according to sources of Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball.

Heyman writes the Dodgers love the intensity and preparedness of Utley, but are also interested in improving against left-handed pitching, which they view as a significant weakness.

The Dodgers finished dead last in team average against left-handers, hitting just .214, which was 20 points behind the next-worst Baltimore Orioles. The addition of the right-handed hitting Dozier, who posted a .965 OPS against southpaws last season, would be a huge boon in this regard.

Dozier is not the only high-profile second baseman to be drawing L.A.'s interest, as the club has also reportedly been in contact with the Detroit Tigers over Ian Kinsler.

An All Star in 2015, Dozier has reportedly been garnering plenty of interest from clubs, most recently at the general manager meetings.

The 29-year-old Dozier was one of the few bright spots for the Twins during a 59-103 campaign, finishing tied for third in the American League with 42 home runs, and second behind Robinson Cano in RBIs (99) among AL second baseman.

Dozier has also been durable during his five-year career, playing at least 147 games every season since 2013. He owns a .246/.320/.442 slash line with 117 home runs, 151 doubles, and 346 RBIs over that time.

The Tulepo, Miss. native is set to earn $15 million over the next two seasons, and is eligible for free agency in 2019.
