For the second time in three seasons, Mike Trout is golden.

The Los Angeles Angels center fielder took home the 2016 American League MVP award Thursday, beating out Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve and Boston Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts.

When the dust settled, Trout finished with 356 points, leading the way by a landslide 19 first-place votes. Betts finished second with 311 points and nine first-place votes, while Altuve rounded out the top three with 227 points.

Player 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th Points
Mike Trout 19 8 1 1 356
Mookie Betts 9 17 4 311
Jose Altuve 2 15 11 2 227
Josh Donaldson 2 9 7 6 200
Manny Machado 5 7 150

Trout also won the award in 2014, and in the process became the only player in MLB history to finish either first or second in MVP voting in each of his first five seasons in the majors.

Ever since breaking into the majors, the 25-year-old has repeatedly been in the conversation for baseball's best player.

Player WAR OPS HR DRS
Mike Trout 9.4 .991 29 6
Mookie Betts 7.8 .897 31 32
Jose Altuve 6.7 .928 24 -2

This season, Trout slashed .315/.441/.550 with 29 home runs, 100 RBIs, and 32 doubles. Not only that, but Trout is showing more patience at the plate than ever, drawing a career-high 116 walks.
