Reyes: Every player on Mets wants Cespedes back

After Neil Walker accepted the $17.2-million qualifying offer from the New York Mets on Monday, Jose Reyes was left without a clear picture of where he will play next season. One thing that's more luminous for the 33-year-old, though, is his desire to have outfielder Yoenis Cespedes return.

"I talked to him like one week ago, he is still waiting," Reyes told the New York Post's Kevin Kernan. "We want him back. I don't know what's going to happen, but for sure we want him back."

Reyes and Cespedes are good friends, which speaks volumes about his yearning for his compadre's return, but it isn't just Reyes who wants to see the Cuban slugger re-sign in The Big Apple.

"Every team needs a player like Cespedes in the lineup," Reyes explained. "He's a game-changer. I tried to talk to him to better convince him to coming back, but that is something I can't control.

"Not only me, but every player on our ballclub wants him back."

Cespedes is one of the top free agents available on the open market after he opted out of the final two years of his contract, valued at $47.5 million, and also rejected a $17.2-million qualifying offer from the Mets.

He will most certainly earn a hefty, long-term deal from an interested party, one of which could be the Mets, who were interested in trying to work something out with the 31-year-old sooner rather than later.

Cespedes was a game-changer for the Mets after arriving in a trade from the Detroit Tigers at the 2015 trade deadline. He hit .282/.348/.554 with 48 home runs and 130 RBIs during his year-and-a-half stint with the club.
