Astros name Alex Cora bench coach

After striking out on a number of managerial vacancies, Alex Cora has landed a job on a major-league coaching staff.

The 41-year-old former infielder has been hired by the Houston Astros as their new bench coach, the team announced Tuesday.

Cora, who spent 14 seasons in the majors before retiring in 2012, interviewed for the Arizona Diamondbacks managerial position last month, in addition to interviewing for the San Diego Padres, Miami Marlins, and Washington Nationals jobs last October.

Cora replaces former Astros bench coach Trey Hillman, who left the club last month to become the manager of SK Wyverns of the Korea Baseball Organization.
