The United States added to its already star-studded roster Monday, gaining the commitment of Texas Rangers catcher Jonathan Lucroy for the 2017 World Baseball Classic.

Lucroy is one of the premier offensive catchers in baseball. The two-time All-Star hit .292/.355/.500 with 24 home runs and 24 doubles in 142 games split between the Texas Rangers and Milwaukee Brewers last season.

Team USA, which has never medaled at the tournament, has also received commitments from Max Scherzer, Chris Archer, Nolan Arenado, and Adam Jones.

The U.S. open play in March at Marlins Park in Miami in Pool C along with Canada, Colombia, and the reigning champion Dominican Republic.
