Report: Blue Jays pushing to sign Morales

Yet another free agent appears to be drawing some interest from north of the border.

The Toronto Blue Jays are reportedly in pursuit of designated hitter Kendrys Morales, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports.

Morales, a switch-hitter, would satisfy Toronto's apparent desire to add some balance to a primarily right-handed lineup. The 33-year-old posted a .263/.327/.468 with 30 home runs and 24 doubles over 618 plate appearances as the Kansas City Royals' primary designated hitter in 2016. He also has the ability to play first base.

It's unclear how serious the Blue Jays' interest in Morales is, or how this might impact their ability to add other free agents - including some of their own stars in Edwin Encarnacion or Jose Bautista. Encarnacion has expressed interest in returning to Toronto; his agent, Paul Kinzer, said Thursday that the Blue Jays remain his client's "first choice."

Earlier Friday, the Blue Jays were reported to be pursuing free-agent outfielder Josh Reddick. They also may have made a splash on the international market, reportedly agreeing to a seven-year deal with Cuban prospect Lourdes Gurriel Jr.
