Report: Giants meet with reps for Chapman, Jansen, Melancon

After their bullpen ended the season on a sour note, the San Francisco Giants are doing their due diligence and speaking with representatives for three of the game's top closers.

San Francisco officials have met with reps for Aroldis Chapman, Kenley Jansen, and Mark Melancon this week, sources told FOX Sports' Jon Morosi.

All three players are free agents who may cost the Giants a pretty penny, after each posted a stellar season.

PLAYER IP SV SVO ERA SO
Aroldis Chapman 58 36 39 1.55 90
Kenley Jansen 68.2 47 53 1.83 104
Mark Melancon 71.1 47 51 1.64 65

Chapman is reportedly looking for a $100-million contract, and the Giants may see competition for his services from the Los Angeles Dodgers, who are reportedly showing interest in the flame-throwing Cuban. The Giants' rival from L.A. is also reportedly interested in re-signing Jansen.

The Giants' bullpen finished ninth in the National League in ERA, and only managed to record 43 saves in 72 opportunities through the regular season. Eleven different players tried to secure a save for San Francisco in 2016.

Hunter Strickland is slated to take over the closer's role if the Giants don't make an addition, but the hard-throwing right-hander is just 4-for-11 in save chances for his career.
