Ortiz, Trout highlight 2016 Silver Sluggers

Baseball's best hitters were honored Thursday as winners of this year's Silver Slugger awards.

Voted by managers and coaches from around Major League Baseball, Mike Trout secured his fifth consecutive award, while retired slugger David Ortiz capped off his career with a seventh overall.

AL Catcher - Salvador Perez, Royals (1st)

AL 1st Baseman - Miguel Cabrera, Tigers (7th)

AL 2nd Baseman - Jose Altuve, Astros (3rd)

AL 3rd Baseman - Josh Donaldson, Blue Jays (2nd)

AL Shortstop - Xander Bogaerts, Red Sox (2nd)

AL Outfielders - Mark Trumbo, Orioles (1st); Mookie Betts, Red Sox (1st); Mike Trout, Angels (5th)

AL Designated Hitter - David Ortiz, Red Sox (7th)

Ortiz had one of the best final seasons to a career in 2016, adding an MLB-best 48 doubles in his age-40 season. He ends his career with the most Silver Sluggers in MLB history at the designated hitter position.
