Maybe that's why it's called the National League.
With the Baseball Writers' Association of America revealing the finalists for the end-of-year MLB awards Friday, the Washington Nationals emerged as the only franchise with a representative in each category. It was the first time in 10 years a team was represented with a finalist for each award.
Nationals BBWAA award finalists:
Award | Finalist |
---|---|
Manager of the Year | Dusty Baker |
Rookie of the Year | Trea Turner |
Cy Young | Max Scherzer |
MVP | Daniel Murphy |
The last team to have a candidate in the top three in each category was the Minnesota Twins in 2006. Minnesota was represented that season by Johan Santana (Cy Young - winner), Justin Morneau (MVP - winner), Francisco Liriano (Rookie of the Year - third), and Ron Gardenhire (Manager of the Year - second).
