Report: Giants agree to minor-league deal with Josh Johnson
The San Francisco Giants have reportedly agreed to a minor-league deal with former All-Star right-hander Josh Johnson, according to CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic.
Johnson, a two-time All-Star and former NL ERA champion with the Florida/Miami Marlins, saw his career stalled due to recurring elbow issues. The 32-year-old was signed to consecutive one-year contracts by the San Diego Padres in 2014 and '15 but never appeared in a game for the team. Instead, he missed all of 2014 due to the second Tommy John surgery of his career in April of that year; after multiple setbacks in his rehab Johnson was forced to undergo Tommy John for a third time in September 2015, which cost him the 2016 season.
Since he last appeared in the majors in 2013 - a season that saw him post a career-worst 6.20 ERA in 16 starts for the Toronto Blue Jays - Johnson has pitched in just a single professional game, when he took the mound for San Diego's Single-A affiliate in Lake Elsinore and pitched to a single batter.
Over nine major-league seasons with the Marlins and Blue Jays, Johnson owns a career 3.40 ERA and 1.268 WHIP while recording 915 strikeouts in 998 innings.
