Miller hints he hasn't washed jock strap in 51 days
There may finally be a reason for Andrew Miller's postseason dominance, and it isn't pretty.
The southpaw reliever has been absolutely unhittable all throughout the playoffs for the Cleveland Indians, with teams beginning to see their chances at a win dissipate after his entrance from the bullpen.
It turns out "Miller Time" is made possible thanks to some dirty laundry.
"My shtick is that I’m trying to be as boring as possible and focus on getting outs,” he told Sports Illustrated's Ben Reiter prior to Game 1 Tuesday. "I don't wash my jock strap until after I have a bad game."
As ESPN's Darren Rovell notes, Miller's last "bad" outing came on Sept. 7, when he was called upon in the eighth inning against the Houston Astros. The usually sturdy left-hander struggled, allowing a home run against Yulieski Gurriel and lasted just two-thirds of an inning.
Since then, Miller has never again allowed a single run.
Considering Miller had a pretty good World Series opener - he went two innings allowing only two hits and no earned runs - and he wasn't used in Game 2, it's very likely his jock strap looks just like his slider - Filthy.
