'Wild Thing' won't throw 1st pitch in World Series
Ricky "Wild Thing" Vaughn isn't getting the call this time.
Though Charlie Sheen - the now-51-year-old actor who portrayed the Cleveland Indians' erratic, bespectacled right-hander in "Major League" - offered to reprise his role, so to speak, and throw out the ceremonial first pitch before one of the World Series games at Progressive Field, he won't get the chance, as Major League Baseball confirmed Friday the honorees have already been selected.
Despite considerable lobbying on social media for "Wild Thing" to get the ball, first-pitch honors in Cleveland will go to "former franchise greats," according to a league spokesman, and an announcement is expected early next week. The Indians will host either the Chicago Cubs or Los Angeles Dodgers for Games 1 and 2 of the World Series, which begins Tuesday, and, potentially, Game 6 and 7, as well.
It's possible, of course, the league was concerned Vaughn might not be able to find the strike zone, given his track record.
