Watch: Miller's 5 outs were all via strikeout
Terry Francona keeps pushing all the right buttons, and Andrew Miller continues to make all the right pitches.
Francona deployed his closer early for the third time this postseason, and Miller once again made Cleveland's manager look like a genius, striking out five of the six batters he faced to help the Indians secure the 2-0 win over the Blue Jays in Game 1 of the ALCS.
Miller followed Corey Kluber's 6 1/3 scoreless frames by retiring his only two batters of the seventh via strikeout before working around a leadoff single in the eighth, and fanning Edwin Encarnacion, Jose Bautista, and Russell Martin to end the inning.
Acquired from the Yankees at the trade deadline, Miller's performance Friday is just the latest feather in his dominant playoff cap. Armed with a high-90s fastball and wipeout slider, the All-Star lefty has yet to give up a run during his postseason career, striking out 22 batters and walking just three.
Cody Allen, who closed games for Cleveland before the addition of Miller, pitched a scoreless ninth to secure the save.
