Bochy has no regrets about bullpen use in NLDS disaster

It's been two days since the San Francisco Giants' bullpen melted down en route to a series and season-ending loss to the Chicago Cubs in front of their hometown crowd at AT&T Park.

San Francisco's 'pen coughed up Tuesday's game, allowing four runs (three earned) in an eventual 6-5 defeat after starter Matt Moore was nearly unhittable.

Though the disastrous inning finished the Giants' season, manager Bruce Bochy has no remorse about using any of the relievers he deployed in the late-game collapse.

"We didn't have any regrets with the guys we threw out there ... I was just proud of how hard we fought," the skipper told reporters during a press conference Thursday.

The Cubs managed to secure a base runner off all five relievers Bochy sent to the hill during the Giants' meltdown.

PITCHER IP H R ER BB
Derek Law 0 1 1 1 0
Javier Lopez 0 0 1 1 1
Sergio Romo 0 1 1 1 0
Will Smith 0.1 1 1 0 0
Hunter Strickland 0.2 1 0 0 0

The poor performance followed a so-so regular season for the bullpen, which finished ninth in the NL in ERA, recording just 43 saves in 72 opportunities. However, general manager Bobby Evans seems content with what the organization has.

"We feel we have a good core there for years to come," he said. "An overhaul would be a tremendous overstatement."
