Ortiz exits final game to standing ovation

Greg M. Cooper / USA TODAY Sports

When David Ortiz walked off the field at Fenway Park in the eighth inning of Game 3 of the ALDS for a pinch runner, he willed his teammates to let him take the field for one more game.

"Put me back in it, let me wear this uniform one more day," Ortiz told reporters following the loss Monday.

That request was left unfilled however, as the Boston Red Sox failed to rally and were swept by the Cleveland Indians with a 4-3 loss in what would be Ortiz's final game in the majors.

While it wasn't the storybook ending that he was hoping for, Ortiz did share a nice moment with the fans as they gave him a standing ovation.
