Blue Jays optimistic Travis will return for ALCS

Some ailing Toronto Blue Jays are going to have some time to rest their bruised up bodies, and the team is confident the layoff will provide Devon Travis enough time to be healthy for the American League Championship Series.

Travis hasn't played since Game 1 of the American League Division Series with right-knee inflammation, and according to general manager Ross Atkins, they're optimistic the second baseman will be back for the next series.

"Feeling better and better about him being a part of the ALCS, which was why we didn't replace him (on the roster)," Atkins told reporters Monday.

Travis, who led the Blue Jays this season with a .300 batting average, praised his team's resilience, and admitted he's looking forward to getting some rest.

"These few days off are going to be great, and I can't say enough about how this team has picked me up," Travis told Alykhan Ravjiani of MLB.com. "That's the beauty of this team, we have guys who step up, and it's made a difference for us all year."

Atkins also provided an update on Francisco Liriano, saying the 32-year-old starter is feeling "awesome" and had a symptom-free day in his recovery from a concussion suffered in Game 2, after he was hit by a comebacker off the bat of Texas Rangers outfielder Carlos Gomez.

The Blue Jays will play the winner of the ALDS between the Boston Red Sox and Cleveland Indians on Friday.
