Duke to miss 2017 after undergoing Tommy John surgery

St. Louis Cardinals reliever Zach Duke underwent Tommy John surgery and had his flexor muscle repaired last week and is expected to miss the entire 2017 season.

"It's definitely disappointing. He did a really good job for us, and I was looking at him as being a key member of that bullpen," Cardinals general manger John Mozeliak told Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com. "We'll look at it and figure out how to best solve this moving forward."

Acquired from the Chicago White Sox at the non-waiver deadline, Duke posted a 1.93 ERA and 1.29 WHIP in 23 1/2 innings for the Cardinals.

The left-hander is owed $5.5 million next season before becoming a free agent in 2018.
