Cubs stick with Hendricks for Game 2 of NLCS
Despite taking a comebacker off his arm in Game 2 of the NLDS, Chicago Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks will get the start in Game 2 of the NLCS against the Los Angeles Dodgers on Sunday, followed by Jake Arrieta and John Lackey in Games 3 and 4, respectively, manager Joe Maddon announced Friday.
Though the Cubs are rolling with the same rotation used in the NLDS against the San Francisco Giants - Jon Lester is pitching Game 1 of the series again - Hendricks' planned start was in doubt after the right-hander was struck by a line drive in last Saturday's contest.
Maddon immediately pulled the 26-year-old from the game following the incident, despite Hendricks pleading to stay, though X-rays on his forearm later returned negative.
Hendricks put together a career year in 2016, crafting an MLB-best 2.15 ERA in 32 starts in the regular season.
