N.Y. tabloid sends message in Mets-Cespedes contract situation

It's a murky situation in New York, as Yoenis Cespedes continues to keep the organization, and the city, in limbo.

The slugger has sent mixed messages to teammates and personnel about whether he'll stay or go, though he's ultimately expected to opt out of his three-year contract with two years remaining.

“It makes no financial sense for him not to (opt out), but we don’t know," a source told the New York Daily News' Kristie Ackert. "He told some people (in the organization) he loves it here and will definitely be back. He said goodbye to some people and told them he won’t be back.”

Regardless of Cespedes' decision, the newspaper didn't beat around the bush in Friday's edition:

Cespedes has until three days after the World Series to exercise the option.

This year, he batted .280/.354/.530 with 31 homers and 86 RBI's in 132 games.
