Report: Colletti among candidates for D-Backs' GM job

Ned Colletti has spent the past decade in the Los Angeles Dodgers' front office, but the veteran executive may be in line to land a major role with one of their division rivals.

Colletti, who led the Dodgers' baseball operations department from 2005-14 before moving into an advisory role, is among a growing list of candidates for the Arizona Diamondbacks' general manager job, which opened up when Dave Stewart was fired earlier this week after just two years on the job, reports J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group.

"It is what it is," Stewart said. "It's that side of the business. To be honest with you, I'm kind of relieved."

Colletti, 62, joins a list of potential replacements that also includes MLB senior vice president for baseball operations Kim Ng - a candidate to be baseball's first woman GM - along with current Diamondbacks assistant GM Bryan Minniti, farm director Mike Bell, Milwaukee Brewers vice president of scouting Ray Montgomery, and MLB executive Peter Woodfork.

Whoever lands that job, however, will reportedly not be working under Tony La Russa, the club's beleaguered chief baseball officer who suggested last month that his job may be in jeopardy, as well.

"I'm anxious to find out because if it’s to go forward there’s a lot of really good planning and communications that are going to happen sooner rather than later and I’m anxious to have at it," La Russa told Nick Piecoro of AZCentral.
