Rodon ties AL record with 7 straight Ks to start game
Matt Marton-USA TODAY Sports
Chicago White Sox left-hander Carlos Rodon put himself in the record books on Friday when he struck out the first seven hitters of the game against the Minnesota Twins.
In striking out John Ryan Murphy to begin the third inning, Rodon tied a White Sox record, as well as an American League record.
Logan Schafer ended Rodon's streak at seven with a double after the Murphy at-bat.
Rodon tied Joe Cowley, who struck out seven Texas Rangers on May. 28, 1986.
The major-league record to start a game is eight, which was set by Jim Deshaies of the Houston Astros in 1986. New York Mets right-hander Jacob deGrom tied the mark in 2014.
