Pirates' Jordy Mercer: Could be shut down

Mercer (forearm) could potentially be shut down for the remainder of the season, Bill Brink of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Analysis:

Manager Clint Hurtle stated that Mercer "could barely make it across the diamond tonight, that's basically all he's got". Jung Ho Kang and Sean Rodriguez are options to fill in at shortstop if Mercer's season is indeed over.
