Watch: Ortiz receives standing ovation in Yankee Stadium sendoff

The Yankee Stadium chapter of David Ortiz's career is in the books.

After earning a walk in his second at-bat of the game, Ortiz was pulled for a pinch runner by Boston Red Sox manager John Farrell to keep the slugger fresh for the postseason. With the early hook, Ortiz completed his final game at the home of his fiercest rivals.

Though Ortiz tormented the Bronx Bombers time and time again during his career, the fans at Yankee Stadium put the rivalry aside to give the retiring icon a standing ovation as he left the field in New York one last time.

The Yankees also honored Ortiz with a pregame ceremony Thursday that included legendary closer Mariano Rivera.

"I guess everybody was happy to see me go," Ortiz told the Boston Globe's Pete Abraham postgame.

Ortiz has hit 53 home runs against the Yankees throughout his 20-year career, so there may actually be some truth to that statement.
