Walt Weiss is no longer the manager for the Colorado Rockies, as he officially stepped down from his position Monday, the club announced.

After his contract expired following the end of the regular season Sunday, Weiss elected not to return to the club he's managed for the past four seasons. He originally signed a one-year deal with the Rockies in 2012 before agreeing on a three-year extension in 2013.

The 52-year-old admitted Monday his decision to step down stemmed from his bumpy relationship with Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich.

“I want to come from a position of gratitude toward an organization I spent 15 years with,” Weiss said, according to The Denver Post's Patrick Saunders. "But I just thought the working relationship with the front office wasn't healthy or productive. That was ultimately my thought when I made this decision."

Reports surfaced in recent days that Sunday would be Weiss' last game as Colorado's bench boss, revealing that the Rockies' front office had been leaving the skipper out of conversations regarding player acquisitions.

Weiss, however, was unfazed by the reports.

"It doesn't necessarily bug me," he said Sunday. "I only want to be where I'm wanted. If I'm not wanted, I just leave. It's one of my rules in life. I don't stay anywhere where I'm not wanted. I just go, I just disappear. … I want to make sure that people want me, from top to bottom. If not, I don't want to be here."

Weiss ends his tenure with the Rockies with a 283-365 record. His .437 winning percentage is the lowest in franchise history.
