Pirates' Francisco Cervelli: Ailing hand may lead to shutdown
Cervelli (hand) may be shut down for the remainder of the season, Stephen J. Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Analysis:
The veteran catcher has been battling a left hand injury, which led manager Clint Hurdle to say Wednesday that the club intends to "back off" Cervelli for the rest of the season. The Pirates are carrying Eric Fryer and Jacob Stallings on the active roster right now, so it seems that those two will assume the catching duties for the remaining few games with Cervelli ailing.
