Nationals' Ramos helped off field with apparent knee injury

Washington Nationals catcher Wilson Ramos left Monday's game against the Arizona Diamondbacks in the sixth inning with an apparent injury to his knee after he attempted a leaping grab on a throw home.

As Diamondbacks outfielder Brandon Drury rounded third on a Yasmany Tomas double, Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman attempted to nab the left fielder out at home on the relay throw, but it sailed high. Ramos made a leaping grab for the ball, but came down awkwardly on his right leg and began clutching it in pain while pointing at his knee.

Ramos was unable to put any weight on his leg as trainers helped him off the field. Manager Dusty Baker wasn't too optimistic about the catcher's condition postgame.

"He doesn’t look too good tonight, but we're going to send him in the morning to get an MRI on his knee," Baker said, according to Byron Kerr of MASN Sports. "You could tell he was in pain. We have to wait 'til tomorrow to come up with something definitive."

Another injury is the last thing the postseason-bound Nationals need at this point. The team is already without superstar Bryce Harper, second baseman Daniel Murphy, and starter Stephen Strasburg.

Still, Baker knows his club won't be earning any pity votes as they near the playoffs.

"There's always a level of concern when you lose a guy of that caliber," Baker said, according to Kerr. "But that's why we have the depth that we have. Nobody's going to feel sorry for you. We just go to next man up. We got some guys that have to pick it up.

"There's nothing you can do about it. You got to play. You got to play and nobody feels sorry for you, so we’re not going to feel sorry for ourselves. I mean it’s a big blow when something happens to a player of that caliber."
