The Miami Marlins canceled their game against the Atlanta Braves, but hundreds of fans flocked to the stadium anyway to pay tribute to the youngster.

Fans created a memorial to honor Fernandez at a time when no one was thinking about baseball.

"I didn't believe it. I've seen these hoaxes before," a season-ticket holder told Andre Fernandez and Manny Navarro of the Miami Herald. "Unfortunately this was not a hoax. It got confirmed shortly after I got here and it's just unbelievable - just unbelievable."

Fernandez was a franchise player, one of the best pitchers in the game, and among the faces of baseball.
