Giants' Denard Span: Locked in a platoon

Span went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run in his return to the lineup Friday against San Diego.

Analysis:

Span was benched for three of the Giants' last four games due to the opposition throwing southpaws. An everyday player for the majority of the season, Span has been locked into a platoon with Gorkys Hernandez over the past week and presumably for the team's final eight games. Those who are rostering the veteran outfielder should note that the Giants are scheduled to face three left-handed starters over their final eight contests, starting with Sunday's scheduled matchup against Clayton Richard and the Padres.
