Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Sent for MRI on shoulder

Greinke experienced shoulder stiffness during Wednesday's outing and was sent back to Phoenix to undergo an MRI, the Arizona Republic reports.

Analysis:

Manager Chip Hale said Greinke was feeling better Friday than he did immediately following Wednesday's start, but the Diamondbacks aren't taking any chances with their $200-plus million investment. Greinke did not show any obvious signs of injury Wednesday, throwing 107 pitches during the outing with his normal velocity. He was scheduled to make two more starts before the end of the season but of course now those starts are very much in question.
