Report: Braves interview Porter, Pendleton for manager job

Brett Davis / USA TODAY Sports

With the 2016 MLB season winding down, the Atlanta Braves have begun their search for a new manager.

The Braves have already interviewed a number of internal candidates, including first base coach Eddie Perez, third base coach Bo Porter, and bench coach Terry Pendleton, sources told Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports, who notes the club still plans to interview external candidates.

Porter, who joined Atlanta last season, is the only one of the three with managerial experience. He led the Houston Astros from 2013-2014, accumulating a 110-190 record. Pendleton has been with the Braves since 2002, and Perez since 2007.

Atlanta's managerial spot has been vacant since May 17 when the club fired veteran skipper Fredi Gonzalez following a 9-28 start. Brian Snitker took over in an interim capacity and has guided the club to a 57-64 record, even receiving strong endorsements from many players.

"We all respect him, so you really want a guy like that on your team," Ender Inciarte told reporters. "You really want to play for him. I think everybody here has been doing that."

The next hire will be the 47th manager in franchise history, but only the third since 1990.
