Report: Royals' Gee hospitalized with blood clots

Peter G. Aiken / USA TODAY Sports

Kansas City Royals right-hander Dillon Gee's season has come to an end after he was hospitalized in Detroit on Sunday night due to blood clots in his lungs and shoulder, according to Rustin Dodd of the Kansas City Star.

Gee experienced shortness of breath after his start Sunday against the Tigers, which led to the diagnosis. He's now headed back to Kansas City, where he'll receive further examination and treatment, per Dodd.

The 30-year-old previously suffered a blood clot in his shoulder while pitching for the New York Mets in 2012.

Gee, who joined the Royals this past December as a free agent, owns a 4.68 ERA, 1.464 WHIP, and 89 strikeouts in 33 appearances - 14 of them starts - this season.
