Brewers' Kirk Nieuwenhuis: Diagnosed with sports hernia

Nieuwenhuis (abdomen) was diagnosed with a sports hernia and received a cortisone shot Wednesday, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Analysis:

This diagnosis certainly does not bode well for Nieuwenhuis' chances to return this season, although the outfielder is adamant that he hopes to get back on the field. He likely won't be able to play for the next few days due to the cortisone shot, but if that helps to manage the pain enough, he could find his way back in the lineup for the last few games.
