The Houston Astros appear to have avoided a major injury to Ken Giles after X-rays on the closer's right wrist Saturday were negative.

Giles was struck by a line drive during batting practice earlier in the day and had to be carted off the field. Manager A.J. Hinch said Giles wasn't in "very good shape" right after the incident. The right-hander was later diagnosed with a right wrist contusion.

He was tagged for six runs in just one-third of an inning Friday and charged with the loss. Prior to that outing, Giles owned a 3.00 ERA in his last 17 appearances, striking out 27 while converting 12 of 13 save opportunities.

Houston enters play Saturday sitting two games back of the second wild card.
