Struggling Yankees lose Castro to hamstring strain

Just when it seemed like the New York Yankees were on the right path towards a playoff spot, the club has lost three of four to the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park, four consecutive games, and could be without two of their starting lineup for the foreseeable future.

Second baseman Starlin Castro and outfielder Jacoby Ellsbury went down with injuries on Saturday, and were sent to New York to be examined by Yankees head physician Dr. Christopher Ahmad at New York-Presbyterian Hospital on Saturday night.

After undergoing MRIs, Castro was diagnosed with a Grade 1 right hamstring strain, while Ellsbury has a right knee bone bruise and is listed as day to day.

In an update from the Yankees, according to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, both players will join the team in Tampa on Tuesday after they receive continued treatment, although there is no word on if either will be ready to play.

Castro left Saturday's contest against the Red Sox after feeling a pop while running to second base on a double.

Ellsbury slammed hard into the center-field wall after making a sliding catch attempt on a double from Xander Bogaerts. He initially stayed in the game, but was later replaced by Brett Gardner.

New York sits seven games behind Boston for top spot in the AL East, and are four games out of a wild-card spot.
