Jesse Johnson-USA TODAY Sports

The Boston Red Sox will not feature David Ortiz in the starting lineup for their last Sunday night game of the 2016 regular season.

When the Red Sox posted their lineup card for the finale of a four-game set against the New York Yankees, Big Papi was not included in his regular spot as the designated hitter.

''When I talked David after Friday night's game - larger part because of the number of times he was on base and the extent to which he ran, a quick turnaround on Saturday - we talked about the upcoming two days - yesterday and today,'' Farrell said, according to The Associated Press. ''With the late arrival, likely 4 a.m., this was the day to give him down.''

Hanley Ramirez will take Ortiz's place as DH, while Travis Shaw is slotted in to play first base in place of Ramirez.
