Donaldson sidelined for 2nd straight day with sore hip

Josh Donaldson needs more time to nurse a nagging hip injury.

The Toronto Blue Jays will be without their All-Star third baseman for a second consecutive game Tuesday due to a sore right hip, after manager John Gibbons revealed the 30-year-old suffered the injury Sunday against the Boston Red Sox while stepping on first base and reaching on an error.

"He's still banged up," Gibbons said, according to Brendan Kennedy of the Toronto Star. "We'll take it day by day. Hopefully he's okay to go (Wednesday)."

Rest may be the necessary remedy for Donaldson, who has struggled to find his bat recently. The reigning AL MVP is mired in an uncharacteristic 0-for-23 slump over his last seven games,
