Anthopoulos out of running for Twins' president job

Alex Anthopoulos isn't willing to relocate for a second time in under a year.

The Los Angeles Dodgers vice president of baseball operations has taken himself out of the running for the Minnesota Twins' president of baseball operations job, saying the timing isn't right for him.

"In general terms, I just obviously moved my family to L.A. When we made the decision to move out here, the thought was long-term implications and the kids just started school on Tuesday," Anthopoulos told Sportsnet 590 The Fan on Friday. "I thought it was going to take a few months and I figured there would be a lot of tears but surprisingly they loved it and they're settling in and everyone's doing well.

"I'm not the type to want to jump around my family all the time. If we thought L.A. was going to be a placeholder or be in a holding pattern we would have stayed in Toronto and just waited around for other opportunities, but that's not what the plan was."

Anthopoulos served as the general manager of the Toronto Blue Jays from 2005-15 and helped the franchise snap a 22-year postseason drought last season. He rejected a five-year extension from the club in October and took several months off before joining the Dodgers in mid-January.

Anthopoulos remains "open-minded" about returning to a GM-type role in the future but is happy with his fit in the Dodgers organization for the time being.

"It's nice that they gave me the opportunity if things were to come up down the road, I have the option to explore it, but that's not where my head is at," Anthopoulos said. "I want to see where this goes and I want to try and enjoy it."

The Twins relieved GM Terry Ryan of his duties in July, and are now looking to add both a president and GM to the fold.
