The red-hot Kansas City Royals are on the verge of getting their best reliever back.

Closer Wade Davis rejoined the team Wednesday and told reporters he will be activated from the disabled list ahead of a three-game series with the Detroit Tigers that opens Friday.

Davis was enjoying another All-Star season when he suffered a flexor strain in his right forearm and landed on the disabled list July 27. He posted a 1.60 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 32 strikeouts in 33 2/3 innings while converting 21 saves.

Despite the loss of Davis, the Royals' bullpen has been the best in baseball in August. It owns a 1.57 ERA and has converted 11 of 12 save opportunities.

Davis is expected to retake his spot at the back end of the bullpen, pushing Kelvin Herrera into a setup role.

Kansas City enters Wednesday's game with the Yankees having won 20 of its last 28 games and sits three games back of a wild-card spot.
