Royals' Yordano Ventura: Rough fifth inning derails Sunday start

Ventura allowed four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks across just 4.1 innings in Sunday's start versus the Red Sox. He did not factor into the decision.

Analysis:

Ventura cruised through four innings having only allowed a solo home run to David Ortiz, but a walk, a pair of hits and a two-base error with one out in the fifth led to three Boston runs, chasing him from the game. Despite the rough outing in this difficult matchup, Ventura extended his streak of allowing three or fewer earned runs to 10 games, illustrating more consistency than he showed in the first half of the season. He will look to get back on track Saturday versus the Tigers.
