Mets' Steven Matz: Expected to come off DL for Thursday start
Matz (shoulder) is expected to return from the DL to start Thursday against the Marlins, ESPN.com's Adam Rubin reports.
Analysis:
Matz has been sidelined since Aug. 14 with a strained shoulder, but he's progressed well in his recovery and if Tuesday's side session goes as anticipated, he'll be cleared to rejoin the rotation. Since rosters are set to expand Thursday, the Mets wouldn't need to make a corresponding roster move to accommodate Matz's return, which likely factored into manager Terry Collins' decision to schedule Matz for that day. The right-hander is expected to replace either Seth Lugo or Robert Gsellman in the club's rotation.
