The injury-ravaged New York Mets were dealt another blow Sunday when shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera departed in the bottom of the first inning with left knee soreness after colliding with Philadelphia Phillies first baseman Tommy Joseph, the team announced.

Cabrera, who entered Sunday's series finale at Citi Field hitting .438/.457/.844 with three homers over his previous eight games, banged up his left knee when he ran into Joseph, while legging out a first-inning bunt attempt. Though he remained in the game following a visit from a team trainer, Cabrera was lifted after advancing to second on Kelly Johnson's single in the following at-bat.

Hours before Cabrera hurt his knee, the Mets placed outfielder Justin Ruggiano on the disabled list, adding him to a sizable contingent of ailing position players that also includes David Wright, Lucas Duda, and Juan Lagares. Both Yoenis Cespedes and Neil Walker were omitted from Sunday's lineup, meanwhile, due to minor ailments.
