Martinez describes exchange with umpire that got him ejected

MLB.com

On a night where home plate umpire Mike Everitt was throwing out everyone, Detroit Tigers outfielder J.D. Martinez apparently didn't have to say much to get tossed.

After Victor Martinez, hitting coach Wally Joyner, and manager Brad Ausmus had already been ejected for arguing with Everitt, J.D. became the fourth Tiger to have his night cut short in the seventh after he exchanged a few words with Everitt about a called strike three.

Following the 3-2 loss to the Los Angeles Angels, J.D. recounted to reporters the conversation that led to his ejection:

J.D.: "You're having a bad day today, huh, Mike?"
Everitt: "What'd you say?"
J.D.: "You're having a bad day today."
Everitt: "You're gone."
J.D.: "Why am I gone?"
Everitt: "You said it twice."
J.D.: "'Cause you asked me what I said!"

Everitt has now ejected an MLB-high six people this season.

"I was kind of laughing at first. I was walking away and I was like, 'What just happened?'" Martinez said.
