Kipnis: 'We moved on pretty fast' from Lucroy ordeal

For a moment, the Cleveland Indians appeared to be the landing spot for Jonathan Lucroy, the top catcher available at the trade deadline. Then, in a flash, Lucroy vetoed the trade, and the Milwaukee Brewers dealt him to the Texas Rangers.

When asked if the decision to nix the deal bothered him or the club, Jason Kipnis said the team doesn't hold any ill will toward Lucroy, who went 1-for-3 against the Indians on Thursday in a 9-0 Rangers win, scoring a run and drawing a walk.

"No. I think collectively, as an organization and as a team, we moved on pretty fast from that," Kipnis told MLB.com's Jordan Bastian. "The only reason we could be mad at him is because he's a good player and we wanted him to play for our team."

In early August, Lucroy said he wasn't informed of the trade, which would have sent him to the Indians - a team on his no-trade list. When he asked Indians president Chris Antonetti to keep an open mind on the matter, he was informed he was essentially a rental until starting catcher Yan Gomes could get healthy.

With the knowledge that he wouldn't be Cleveland's catcher of the future, he vetoed the trade, which Kipnis said didn't surprise him one bit.

"We completely understand what he was going through," he said, "That doesn't mean he's a bad guy. It doesn't mean anything about him. A lot of us probably would've made the same choice if we were in his position.

"So, we've moved on real fast from him. That doesn't concern us anymore."
