Report: Dodgers unlikely to recall Puig this season

It looks like regardless of how well Yasiel Puig does in the minors, the Los Angeles Dodgers won't call him up in September.

While the club said it has no plans to desperately trade the outfielder, a Dodgers-connected person said it's "doubtful" Puig will return to the majors this season, according to Jon Heyman of Today's Knuckleball.

It's an unfortunate situation for Puig, considering he's batting .400/.466/.692 with five home runs in 19 games.

But in the event he doesn't get the call as the Dodgers make a World Series run, the reason for sending him down becomes abundantly clear. It was never truly a talent issue with Puig, but more so his maturity.

Now, it looks like he's past his partying phase in the minors, and has grown into the type of athlete the organization had hoped.

"He's handled it exceptionally well and is in a great frame of mind," one Dodgers person said.
